J.S. Bach: Das Wohltemperierte Clavier

Composer: J.S. Bach
Title: Das Wohltemperierte Clavier
Performer: Andras Schiff (piano)

The world, and I in particular, didn’t need yet another recording of Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier. However, I am a huge fan of Andras Schiff so I felt I had to buy his new recording. I am so glad I did. His performance is amazing.

This is his second recording of Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier because, like Angela Hewitt, he recorded them years ago and has played them so often that he felt he has new things to say. And he does. Beautiful things.

One example of his extraordinary choices of interpretation is the BWV 851 Prelude. Most performers play it fast, way too fast. Obnoxiously fast. In his new recording Schiff plays it slowly. The melody sings and it’s fabulous.
